Canon Model IID1

Your camera would appear to be a Model IID1. It has the following distinguishing features:

  • No Model Name on Camera
  • Top Shutter Speed 1/500th
  • Has a Slow Speed Dial
  • Top speed on slow dial is 25
  • One piece View Finder Lever
  • No Siderail
  • Has a Film Speed Reminder
  • Has no lock on Slow Speed Dial

Dates: October 1952 thru June 1954

Produced: 2,400

Ser. Nos.:  72400 to 125000

This camera is identical to the IID except that it has a film speed reminder on the rewind knob.

Collectors should not give too much credence to the serial number range as it is a very simple matter to put the film reminder dial onto the rewind knob, if you have the speed reminder dial. It is also an easy matter to remove it. This was undoubtedly done at various times this apparently putting the wrong model in the wrong number sequence.

In any event, this is a great little camera no matter which version, IID or IID1, you have.

Canon Model IID User Manual

This User Manual is a little confusing as it seems to say that the IID has a Film Speed Reminder on the winder knob, however, this is incorrect. It does not. But the IID1 does! Otherwise, it is the same camera.
