The Marr Christmas Party 2022

Covid kept the family apart for three years and it was beginning to really bother me. I was not spending time with my family and I was missing them. I was determined that this year we were not going to pass up the Christmas party.

Grandma Etta and Grandpa Bill started this tradition. At first it was Christmas Dinner at their house but as the family

grew that became impossible and they moved the dinner into the Common Room in their condo complex.

However, it was a lot of work and they were getting older. So Grandpa began having dinner for the family at “Adrian’s at the Airport”. He liked to hang around at the airport in Langley and Adrian’s became a meeting place for he and his buddies. So the choice of Adrian’s was a natural. Over several years we had many family dinners and parties there.

Our Party Invitation

Ann has stepped up and had a Christmas party at her house, and Gordon had a Christmas gathering at his house, so, I felt it was my turn to host our annual get together.

I spoke to Jim at Adrian’s and he said that they would love to have us so we decided on the 4th of December. He said he would set aside a part of the restaurant our own section and we decided on a menu of three items with appy’s before hand.

So I went home and made up an invitation and posted it on Face book and then I phoned anyone who did not respond. Sean and Shiela would be in Mexico. Flynn was going to be flying that day and Keiko and the girls

had activities on. Matt was coming but Jessica was still reticent. But everyone else was up for it. Even Joe and Christina said they were going to come. They always support whatever we are doing.

Susan wanted to get involved cooking something or making a dessert but I didn’t want that. I wanted us to be able to get dressed, go to the party, have a good time with the family, and then leave: no dishes to clean, no leftovers to put away, no exhaustion at the end of it. Just a great party.

Christmas Tabe Card that we used.

And that’s how it went and we had a great time. I put panetone in the center of every table and some pictures of past dinners and parties we have had so our tables were marked and they looked Christmassy.

It is amazing how the children have grown. Not having seen everyone for a couple of years I was amazed how everyone has grown, the children taller, the parents older. It was great. The time flew by. We had a toast to Mom and Dad and I made a little speech. The day turned out exactly as I hoped it would.

Of course I took my camera and before we ate I got everyone together for a picture to add to the pictures of a dozen other Christmas parties from years back. It is always a pain having to pose for the pictures but years later, everyone is so glad we did it.

And this was our Christmas gathering this year. Now, I am not certain of all the names so I will have to find out some and amend this text. However, From the left in the front row or three, there Dave and Mary and their kids Drew and Paige. Above Mary is her brother Bob. Mary and Bob are my sister Ann’s kids. I am in the front row with the funny hat and beside me is Susan’s daughter Christina. Her husband Joe is behind me. OK so far? Behind Christina is my daughter Kathleen and her husband Colin. Beside her on the right is her daughter Sarah. Behind Sarah is my son Gordon and in front of her is my sweetheart Susan. So half way there. Now is a good time for a drink refill! Let me know when you are ready to carry on. Ok, carrying on: on Susan’s right is my sister Ann. Behind her slightly to the left are Gordon’s daughters Holly and Laura.  Then there is my son David’s daughter Cynthia, and behind her is Aiden, Laura’s boyfriend. Beside Ann on the right are her grandchildren Justin, Kirin and Amy. (My God, Justin has his learner’s drivers licence!!) Behind Justin is my daughter’s son Paul and his girlfriend Morgan. To Justin’s right is my grandson Matt and his girfriend Samantha. And finally, my son David who is Matt’s father. And that is my family except for my first born Sean and his wife Shiela who are in Mexico, my son Flynn who is off flying into Deli in India and his family who have other engagements. His wife Keiko keeps the children Olivia and Sophia super busy. She is a great mom.  Matt’s sister was unable to make it. And finally, Nora, the mother of my children who is concerned about Covid and wanted to avoid large crowds, which we certainly are!
