An Evening with Jimmy

Jimmy and Joe fire up the BBQ on the patio.

Before Covid, around 4 years ago, Joe and I went over to Jimmy Ball’s and had a Great Guy’s night talking, watching music videos and drinking some of Jimmy’s wine. Ever since that night we have wanted to do it again.

About 6 weeks ago we called Jimmy to set up a date for another Guy’s Night and settled on the 10th of June, the day after Jimmy’s birthday.

Joe came by bus and I walked over to Jimmy’s house anticipating that we would be having a bit, maybe a large bit, to drink.

Jimmy, me and Joe before dinner enjoying a very nice Rose Prosecco.

Jimmy bought steaks and sausages to do on the BBQ and Katie worked in the kitchen preparing the veggies. They have always been great hosts and this evening was no exception. Joe and Jimmy worked the BBQ and I set up to take the picturesthat are posted here.

It was an Italian Wine night and we began with a delightful fruity rose prosecco. I am usually not a fan of prosecco but this was really a nice wine. It was slightly sweet and had an excellent flavour. A great start.

With dinner Jimmy brought out a 2013 Flaccianello della Pieve which was really unique. From Panzano which is a town in the Commune of Greve, it is not a Chianti although it is from the center of the Chianti region of Tuscany. It was a treat! It is not often that I get to drink such a fine wine.

One of those steaks on the grill.

This is the very excellent wine that Jimmy chose for the meal and it was really excellent. One of the best I can remember!

The meal was excellent and better. The steaks Jimmy bought were incredible. With the really exceptional wine it was a meal to be remembered. We chose the date without realizing it was Jimmy’s birthday the day before but we figured it out in time and we brought a cake for desert, which we managed to eat in great slices!

After dinner we retired to the basement where we watched music videos and got into Jimmy’s cognac. Needless to say, walking to Jimmy’s was a good idea. And walking home was an even better idea as things turned out. And it proved to be be even more challenging. As it turned out, Christina and Susan came over to pick us up. Christina drove Joe home and Susan and I walked home. It was a great evening all around. I hope we can do it again in another four years.

Joe chose the cake and had it decorated.
